Running the Gamut

Here is my first gamut sketch, Photoshop 45 min.  This may not have been the most ideal color choice for the subject matter, which was a B&W screen grab from Metropolis, but it's a start!

Gamut Tools

I have been really interested in learning about color this past year and have done so via James Gurney's book Color and Light.  I can't recommend this book enough for those of you who want more information on the subject of color and light interactions.  In his book he talks about gamuts, which are a limited range of colors selected via a polygonal mask over a color wheel.     

Below is a really handy online tool to help with setting up your gamut.

Speed Painting Forest Landscape 45 Min

In the last month I've been reading James Gurney's book Color and Light which explains how different light and color affect form.  Focusing on form, color and light interactions is definitely a different approach from how I've worked in the past but I feel it's a piece of the puzzle that I was missing before.  After seeing a demo by Goro Fujita today at work I was inspired to start up my sketching again after a short hiatus.
